Personal Statement

Pete J. Rizzi | Health & Life Coach

Hi. I’m Peter J. Rizzi.

I’ve always been a rebel. At age 13, I was already drinking and smoking, skipping school, and wearing my “you can’t tell me what to do” attitude like a badge of honor for all to see. If there were rules to be followed, I was sure going to find a way to break them. Rock and roll rebel to the core.

Fortunately, I’ve outgrown that “defiant just for the hell of it” attitude and the mind-altering substances that went with it. I’ve traded in my beer and cigarettes for a green smoothie and a morning meditation, and I feel healthier than I ever have before.

But that rebellious spirit is still in me as strong as ever, and that’s why I couldn’t just sit by and watch when I learned about the ways we are being fed a daily diet of ever-conflicting, misleading, and even unethical information about our food and our health.

It makes no sense to me why it has become commonplace in our society for products to be mislabeled; for harmful ingredients to go undisclosed; for unhealthy foods to be advertised to kids; and to see diabetes and obesity at epidemic levels.

I cannot and will not accept that this is “just the way it is.” I also can’t agree with the idea that the only way to sustain ourselves well into our “golden” years is to rely on medications and doctors.

I call B.S.

I’ve looked behind the curtain, and I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is a better way to live. A simpler and more natural way to not only maintain our well-being, but to actually THRIVE.

I know this because I’m living it now.

And because rebels don’t go off into the sunset quietly, I’ve made it my personal mission to share what I’ve learned with you by creating Rebel Health.

At Rebel Health, we are focused on bringing about real change in people’s lives by educating them about nutrition and well-being and empowering them to take back control of their health on their terms.

Why?

Because everyone deserves to be healthy in body, mind, and spirit; and wellness is not a privilege. It’s our birthright and no one should take that away from us.

My Story

Pete Rizzi | 250lbs | Smoking 2 Packs a day

My journey to get to this point has been far from linear. Like many of us, I’ve had to learn things the hard way.

In 2005, I was clinically obese at 250 lbs. I was smoking at least a pack a day; drinking excessively; over-eating; and getting very little exercise. My job as a hedge fund trader brought with it 4 hours of commuting a day, a ton of stress, and all the excesses that come along with the industry, all of which I indulged in willingly.

Needless to say, it wasn’t long before my health really started to deteriorate. Eventually, I got sick of how crappy I was feeling so I committed to lose the weight, so I could feel more energetic again. I read books. I saw doctors. I tried diets and new exercise routines. I met holistic practitioners. I had times of progress and times of relapse. Two steps forward, sometimes three back. Eventually, I succeeded in losing the weight, but something still didn’t feel quite right.

I was still working at the same stressful job, and no matter what I tried, I couldn’t kick my addiction to nicotine and reliance on alcohol for just about everything. Then, it happened. My wake-up call.

I suffered a mini-stroke at age 44.

All of the chest pains, the cold hands and feet, the coughing, the stress, the fatigue, the anxiety…it all culminated on that day.

Doctors warned me that my mini-stroke was just the beginning – the real damage came next if I didn’t immediately make some serious shifts in what I was doing with my life. Diet and exercise adjustments were only part of the equation. What I needed for lasting change was an extreme body, mind, and spirit makeover.

So, over the next four years, I dove into the deep end of all things health. I gave up alcohol and nicotine for good. I left my job, and I enrolled in a life coach certification program and an integrative nutrition program to learn all I could about reclaiming my health. I wanted to understand what drove me to get to such a breaking point in the first place, so it could never happen again. I became an educated consumer and learned to ask discerning questions about our health and food industries. I enrolled in a yoga teacher training program, so I could discover how to bring balance and calm into my life where there used to be stress and anxiety.

As you can imagine, with my new-found passion for “all things health” I was discovering and learning a whole lot, and I still am. But something even more sacred to me than all the new knowledge I was attaining was my new-found ability to connect with myself and to truly listen to my own truth. This is where the real healing began. I started to feel truly strong and healthy, but this time the feeling was not just skin deep. This time, it went down to my very core. I felt completely transformed, and what’s more I discovered in me a deep desire to serve and help others also experience the same kind of liberation I had.

And that is how Rebel Health was born

I’m living proof that it’s never too late to take the wheel and turn things around. So, no matter how out-of-touch you feel with your health, know that we’ll work with you to carve out the best path back to nourishment of your whole self – body, mind, and soul.
